Our Blessed Mother has so many feast days throughout the entire year and she is more than deserving of our honor and praise. She is the Mother of God after all.
One of our Lady’s biggest feast days is the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is just a fancy way of saying that it’s her birthday.
Her birthday is the second most important birthday that we get to celebrate. Our Lord of course is the most important, but He loves it when we honor His Mother.
Time To Celebrate
1. Decorate
You decorate for the birthdays in your family, so don’t forget to decorate on our Lady’s birthday.
It can be all elaborate and the whole entire house is decorated or it can just be around your dining room table.
How ever you decorate for other birthdays, just do the same thing. That will especially help the little ones to better understand what you are doing.
For every birthday in our home, we hang up a birthday banner that I made a few years ago. It’s my favorite birthday tradition now.
So the night before the nativity of the Blessed Virgin, we’ll get the birthday banner hung up.
2.Bake a Cake
We like to celebrate birthdays with a cake, so go ahead and make whatever kind you want for our Lady.
Of course, it doesn’t have to be a cake. For whatever reason you might choose, any dessert will make her happy. It’s the thought that counts.
Mini blueberry cheesecakes will be a hit with everyone.
Or maybe lemon pie.
Or brownies.
Whatever dessert your family loves, our Blessed Mother will love that you made it for her.
Kids love to help in the kitchen, so if you’re able to, let them help you bake the chosen dessert.
My toddler is always so excited to help me with anything in the kitchen, so I try to let him help as often as I can.
3. Sing Happy Birthday
I don’t think that I need to explain this one.
Are there any families that don’t sing happy birthday?
I didn’t think so.
Sing to your Mother!
4. Flowers
Flowers are probably what everyone thinks of when it comes to celebrating a Marian feast day.
And for good reason. Flowers are beautiful and thoughtful.
Every woman loves flowers.
So take the kids to pick some wildflowers. Or get some at the grocery store. Either way.
5. Marian Devotions
The best way to celebrate the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is to pray a Marian dvotion.
An extra Rosary would be the best choice, but it doesn’t have to be a Rosary.
The Litany of the Blessed Virgin is another great option.
Singing Marian hymns as a family would also bring much joy to our Lady.
Pick whatever you can commit to. Don’t try to do too much. It’s better to do one thing with much love and devotion than to do 5 things just for the sake of a bigger number.
Time For A Birthday Party!
