6 Ways to Celebrate the Month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

June 15, 2024 by homemakingwiththesaints Leave a Comment

Being Catholic is so much more than going to Church on Sundays and Holydays. It’s also living the Liturgical Year every day in our homes.

It’s important to celebrate as many feast days as you can because it is one of the many ways that we can love our Faith and grow in our Faith.

June is probably my favorite month for two reasons. Our wedding anniversary is this month and more importantly, June is the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

We are doing our best to celebrate the Sacred Heart in our home all month long.

Here are 6 ways that you and your family can celebrate the Sacred Heart in your home.

6 Ways to celebrate the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus written over an image of the Sacred Heart

1. Hymns to the Sacred Heart

The Catholic Church has so many hymns for us for the entire Liturgical Year. So many.

The feast of the Sacred Heart is no exception and there are many English and Latin hymns to choose from.

Some of my favorites are “Cor Arca, Legum Continens”, “Cor Dulce, Cor Amabile”, “O Sacred Heart of Christ Aflame” and “O Heart of Jesus Hear.”

If you don’t know any hymns to the Sacred Heart, YouTube actually has many of them. The ones I listed would be a great place to start.

St. Augustine said that “he who sings prays twice.” So let’s fill our homes with these hymns throughout the entire month of June.

2. Prayers to the Sacred Heart

Just like the hymns, the Catholic Church has given us many prayers for the Liturgical Year. What a shame it would be if we never used them!

The Litany of the Sacred Heart would be a great addition to the family prayers and the Consecration to the Sacred Heart would be a wonderful addition to your personal prayer time.

I have the Consecration to the Sacred Heart here if you need it.

3. Activities Inspired by the Sacred Heart

Here’s where we can really get creative with our celebrations.

Activities can be anything.

It can simply be coloring sheets of the Sacred Heart for the kids and their friends too.

It could be an at-home date night for you and your husband by painting the Sacred Heart on canvases to display in your home.

You could even host a themed playdate.

The options are endless. It all depends on your family and what would make this fun and not seem like a chore.

You can take an activity that your family normally does and just give it a Sacred Heart twist.

4. Food

Shape things like hearts.

Pizza would be a hit! Let everyone make their own personal pizza and they can shape the dough into hearts.

Another idea would be decorating heart shaped cookies. Everyone gets to decorate their own cookies trying to make it look like a picture of the Sacred Heart. This would be a great activity for the playdate! You could even turn it into a friendly competition.

A heart shaped cake is also a great idea!

5. Decorate Your Home

Another way to celebrate the Sacred Heart, or any feast for that matter, is by decorating.

Move your Sacred Heart images to the most prominent place in your home and decorate them with flowers and ribbons.

Our Lord said that He will bless every place where a picture of His heart is set up and honored.

If your kids have an image or statue of the Sacred Heart in their rooms, encourage them to decorate them.

6. Spread the Devotion

Spreading devotion to the Sacred Heart could simply be hanging a Sacred Heart flag on the front of your home where everyone can see it.

Garden flags are quite nice and here is a Sacred Heart garden flag if you would like to do this.

Having a Sacred Heart decal on your car is another great way.

I even saw an idea where someone painted the Sacred Heart on their front window.

The possibilities are endless!

We aren’t always able to talk to people about the Faith, but having these images out for everyone to see is a great way to get people thinking.

Let’s Celebrate the month of the Sacred Heart!

I hope these 6 ways to celebrate the month of the Sacred Heart got your wheels turning.

Start doing some of these with your family and then start including your friends when they come over!

This month is for the Sacred Heart alone and as Catholics it should be obvious to everyone who comes into our homes.
