Laetare Sunday

March 10, 2024 by homemakingwiththesaints Leave a Comment

We have made it to the fourth Sunday of Lent, which is also called Laetare Sunday. The word “Laetare” comes from the first word of the Introit and it means “rejoice”.

We are now officially halfway through Lent. Which means that there are only three more weeks till Easter. I find that pretty hard to believe.

Three block images. One of a statue of our Lady. One of a crown of thorns centerpiece and one is an overhead shot of a bowl of red beans. The word "Laetare" is at the bottom.

Mid Lent Review

Ok, mommas, if you’ve been struggling this Lent, we’re now halfway through which is proof that you can do it.

If you haven’t been struggling so far, keep it up!

Either way, we must stay strong with God’s help and overcome the devil’s temptations.

So how was this last week for you?

I feel like my Lenten weeks just continue to flip flop. This past week I feel like I accomplished what I wanted, but I definitely let some other areas slack off.

So this middle-of-Lent week, I’ll be working on getting my spiritual reading in again hopefully a little bit everyday.

However this last week was for you, just take a few moments to check on what needs work and let that be your focus.

Laetare Week Snacks

Just sharing our snacks from the last week and the upcoming week because they’ve been working great for us.

As always, we had overnight oats as one of our snacks. Overnight oats are the current favorite this season.

We had some chocolate chip oats and some maple pecan oats. I also prepped some more maple pecan oats for this upcoming week.

I had to make two batches of granola bars last week cause we just go through them so fast.

First thing this week, I’ll have to make some more.

I also made some protein balls which are rolling into this mid-Lent week with us, so we’re starting off the week with a couple of snacks already.

Meal Ideas for Laetare Week

I love sharing with y’all the meals that we enjoyed in the last week.

I know I am always open to new ideas or inspiration when it comes to our weekly menu, so I hope this simple list might do that for you too.

On Monday we had some white chicken chili with biscuits which is always a crowd pleaser.

Tuesday was some crockpot Red Beans and Rice, one of my husband’s favorites. You can get that recipe here.

Wednesdays seems to be turning into Quiche Wednesday for us. We had quiche last Wednesday and it’s on the schedule for this upcoming Wednesday.

Thursday we had some chicken parmesan casserole with some green beans. We hadn’t had green beans in a while, so this was a hit that day.

Friday we had some sweet potato and black bean chili and it was so good that I put it on the schedule for next Friday too.

Laetare Sunday Mass Prayers

Introit

“Rejoice, O Jerusalem: and come together all you that love her: rejoice with joy, you that have been in sorrow: that you may exult, and be filled from the breasts of your consolation. Ps. I rejoiced at the things that were said to me: we shall go into the house of the Lord.”

Collect

“Grant, we beseech Thee, O almighty God, that we, who for our evil deeds justly deserve to be punished, by the comfort of Thy grace may mercifully be relieved.”

Offertory

“Praise ye the Lord, for He is good: sing ye to His name, for He is sweet: whatsoever He please, He hath done in heaven and in earth.”

Secret

“Look down mercifully upon these sacrifices, we beseech Thee, O Lord, that they may lead to our devotion and salvation.”

Postcommunion.

“Grant us, we beseech Thee, O merciful God, ever to celebrate with sincere worship, and receive with faithful hearts Thy holy mysteries, of which we continually partake.”
