Second Sunday of Lent

February 25, 2024 by homemakingwiththesaints Leave a Comment

We just completed one full week of Lent and we are starting another one beginning with this Second Sunday. Let’s check in with each other to see how we’re doing and to share ideas and encourage each other.

Weekly Review

How was this first week for you? Did you conquer some of the challenges that arose?

Did you manage to stay on top of snacks this week? Did you get a chance to fit in your spiritual reading most days?

I had some good successes this week.

I finished reading the book “The Wife Desired” which I had started a few weeks before Lent, so now I started reading “Dressing with Dignity.” Both of these books I’ve read before, but there is always something new to be gained from each time they’re read.

For our snacks, we enjoyed some homemade granola bars, protein balls and of course some overnight oats.

And to top it off, I even managed to prep 9 jars of blueberry overnight oats for next week. But then I got so excited about having them done already that when I was finishing up, I ended up dropping and breaking one of the jars.

Now I only have 8 jars of blueberry oats made. Oh, well. At least those 8 jars are fine.

I’ll be sharing the recipe for those blueberry oats next week, so keep an eye out.

In the meantime, you can give these maple pecan overnight oats a try.

I did have some other challenges this week that thankfully didn’t involve breaking anything.

One of those challenges was fitting in my Lenten prayer time, so I know what I’ll be prioritizing during this second week.

What about you? What will you be prioritizing more during this second week of Lent?

Meal Ideas

I would like to share with you some of our meals from this past week. I know that sometimes I need some inspiration for a little something new or different to try, so I hope this list might be that for some of you.

We had a chicken parmesan casserole with some broccoli and corn on the side. That dish made enough for us to have it for two nights. This one was a big hit with my husband!

We had some broccoli and cheddar quiche that turned out to be perfect for Friday.

And I almost made some chicken pot pie, but then I changed my mind and made chicken tacos instead. We had that with some refried beans and corn.

The Gospel from the Mass of the Second Sunday of Lent

I would also like to share the Gospel from today’s Mass with you. I know that I benefit tremendously from hearing or reading something more than once.

So here is the Gospel from the Second Sunday of Lent

“At that time Jesus taketh Peter and James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart: and He was transfigured before them.

“And his face did shine as the sun: and his garments became white as snow. And behold there appeared to them Moses and Elias talking with Him. And Peter answering, said to Jesus: Lord, it is good for us to be here: if Thou wilt, let us make three tabernacles, one for Thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

“And as he was yet speaking, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them. And lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying: This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye Him.

“And the disciples hearing, fell upon their face and were very much afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said to them: Arise, and fear not. And they lifting up their eyes saw no one, but only Jesus.

“And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying: Tell the vision to no man till the Son of Man be risen from the dead.”

Final Thoughts for the Second Sunday of Lent

Don’t let any challenges from this last week discourage you. Every day is a new gift from God with the chance for growth.

Just take a few minutes to figure out what needs more work and go from there.

Remember that Lent is supposed to be simple not stressful.

I wish you all a very blessed second week of Lent.
